2016-06-23 Jookla Zappa in Edmonton at Points of Departure
JOOKLO ZAPPA Fresh off their stop at Sled Island, Edmonton is fortunate to receive a visit from this international ensemble during their North American tour.
Jooklo Zappa's frenetic free jazz approach is propelled by the unhinged dual saxophones of Virginia Genta and Stanley Zappa (nephew of Frank Zappa) and the primal drumming of David Vanzan. Together, they create a demented cacophony that ably straddles the boundaries of tonality and rhythm. [bio taken from Sled Island website]
POINT OF DEPARTURE is a new live music series dedicated to providing a space for all forms of improvised, spontaneous, and experimental music. Edmonton's experimental music scene is multi-faceted yet fractured; part of this series' mandate will be to bring together artists from different backgrounds and genres to facilitate new connections and collaborations, and to allow the scene to grow and expand in new directions.
